SUMMARY OF CONGRESSIONAL ACT S.33

IMPROVED NATIONAL MONUMENT DESIGNATION PROCESS ACT

Bill S.33 has the potential to END the era of FAST & MANIPULITIVE monument designations by future Presidents. We need people concerned about LOCAL fire danger, public access, heritage and jobs to TURN OUT IN SUPPORT of the Act.

A. SECTION SUMMARY: President may not sign monument designations without an Act of Congress and the approval of Governors of the States in which the land exists.

B. SECTION SUMMARY: The Secretary of Commerce may not restrict access or to economic zones (like O & C Land) in designated monument areas without expiration of the zones or an appropriate review period that includes public input and an Act of Congress.

JACKSON COUNTY: The 10/29/2016 meeting of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners (3) was very interesting. The format was 1:1 speakers (opposed vs. supporters). BUT THE CROWD… The crowd was filled with a majority of citizens opposed to the monument expansion by our counts.

KLAMATH COUNTY: The 11/1/1016 meeting of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners (3) was a SUCCESS for the No Monument Tribe. The crowd was overwhelmingly opposed to the monument expansion. The format was Supporters for 1.25hrs. then the Opposed. The Commissioners openly opposed the monument in their comments at the end and the No Monument Tribe.

SISKIYOU COUNTY: A “Supervisor,” which is like a commissioner (5 rather than 3) and representative of Siskiyou County spoke out openly in OPPOSITION to the monument expansion or ANY monument in Northern California at both the Oregon meetings.

Is there Still HOPE?

If OBAMA signs it, WE ARE NOT DONE. The only action that will stall this expansion at that point, per a attorney specializing in land use cases, is a class-action law suit filed by the Boards of Commissioners & Supervisors in Jackson, Klamath and Siskiyou Counties. If you care for this land’s future and the Citizen’s access to it, join our email update list on this page and our Facebook page, donate so we can continue to publicize it, and ATTEND EACH MEETING. YOUR County Officials and Sheriffs are the last bastion of HOPE in protecting access to and use of our public lands!

Who are you & why are you doing this?

Hello and thanks for visiting. My name is Ryan Mallory and I love to hike, photograph, hunt, fish, 4x4 and camp in the Southern Oregon Outdoors. The EXPANSION IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME, my family, and my friends, who USE THIS LAND for recreation and peace. I operate a marketing firm that serves about 200 businesses in Southern Oregon. My family, friends and I feel obligated to GET THE WORD OUT. We donated this site, all research, hosting, domain name, graphic design and more.

We also purchased a big batch of yard signs, field/barn/shop signs with special thanks to Nick Smith (HealthyForests.org), and T-Shirts fronted by Jerry Spears (Spearco Graphics) for their help in pulling this off.. We will get stickers too, but we may need a little help. We would also like a professionally produced TV ad. Can you help us reach our goals in STOPPING THIS & FUTURE EXPANSIONS. We work hard and CARE, but can’t cover all bases without help. We will press this to a campaign for change in how Southern Oregon fights for access to their public land now and in the future.
